Physical & Data Center Security Questionnaire🔗
Security at the Office🔗
Why this section matters: Data centers are often fairly easy to protect because not very many people need physical access to them. Offices, on the other hand, are much harder to secure because a lot of people need frequent access. In addition to being directly connected to data centers on a network level, offices host the physical machines that are used to access data. Unless the office is sufficiently protected, attackers might use physical access to (for example) set up back doors on machines or steal local data, including credentials that can then be used to access information in data centers.
Note: If you have multiple offices with network-level access to systems or data containing confidential information, answer the following questions for the office with the fewest physical controls (the weakest link).
Are all facilities used exclusively by your company, or are some shared?
Does your company review the physical and environmental risks that your office facilities are exposed to, and do you have procedures in place to evaluate and, if necessary, address them?
Do you have a written policy that lists the physical security requirements for office facilities?
Offices need a lot of networking equipment. If an attacker manages to gain access to such equipment, they could, for example, do a man-in-the-middle attack for all office traffic. It's important to protect access to network equipment like floor distributor switches, office routers, wireless APs, etc.
Data Center Security🔗
Why this section matters: Most of a company's data should be stored and processed in a data center. The physical and environmental protections built into data centers are intended to provide a safe haven for data. This section asks questions about these security controls, to ensure they can provide adequate protection for confidential data.

Do you use Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, or a similar outsourced, virtual-machine-based data center?
